What We’ve Been Watching: April 2019

What We’ve Been Watching is a monthly feature where we talk about everything we’ve been watching over the past month. It might be something on Netflix, NOW TV, Sky or even just a DVD we’ve had for years but wanted to watch again. If we’ve been watching something new we’ll talk about that too!

*May contain spoilers so read with caution!

TV and Streaming

Game of Thrones (series 8)

I’m not going to say too much about Game of Thrones because I really don’t want to spoil anything for anyone, especially as this is the 8th and final series. What I will say, is that at the time of writing this post, I have watched the 3 episodes and they have all thrown up so many questions and surprises. I can’t wait to see how it all ends.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (series 2)

Growing up I absolutely loved Sabrina the Teenage Witch and when I heard they were re-making it, I wasn’t sure. Then, I watched the first series and LOVED every single episode. It took me a little while to get around to watching the 2nd series but I think I liked it more. Now that the world had been set up I could really get into the story more and wow, was it good! I think this series was maybe a little less dark in some ways but there was so much more development with the characters and that’s what I liked more.

9-1-1 (series 2)

9-1-1 is one of both mine and John’s favourite shows at the moment. Instead of just being another cop show, this one follows the team behind 911 calls in Los Angeles and the first responders who attend to the calls. This is one of the most exciting shows on at the moment and you really never know what is going to happen from one episode to the next. It’s also really emotional at times so it has a lot to offer.

The Rookie (series 1)

The Rookie is fairly new and I think we’re only 5 or 6 episodes in to the first series. This one stars Nathan Fillian who is going through the process of becoming a cop after his marriage breaks down and he gets divorced. Nathan Fillian is a favourite of mine and I generally like anything he’s in anyway but The Rookie is really funny and quite different. I really like that the focus is really on an older man doing something different with his life.

Films

Gone Girl

I’d been meaning to watch this one for ages and then a few nights ago it was on Sky. Starting at 9pm and finishing at midnight I wasn’t sure if I had the energy. I’m not really used to watching films with so many adverts now. But, I did watch it and really enjoyed it.

Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike star as husband and wife, with the latter going missing. This film has mystery, intrigue, action of sorts and a hell of a lot going on. It wasn’t what I was expecting but I still really enjoyed it.

This month has been mostly spent watching TV shows rather than films. We don’t have our NOW TV subscription any more so unless the films are on Sky then we won’t be watching too many now.

  1. I love the new Sabrina series, too. The original with Melissa JH was a staple of my childhood, and I’ve always had a soft spot for witches in movies and fiction. The new Sabrina is the grown-up witch series I didn’t know I needed!

  2. Yes Game of Thrones has been amazing, the latest episode was jam packed full of amazement. I can’t wait for the next episode. We are also are watching Sabrina!

  3. I haven’t seen any of those TV series. Like you, I loved the original Sabrina and am hesitant to watch the new series. But if you think it’s good maybe I should give it a chance.

  4. This is a great list but I have to admit that I have never ever watched an episode of Game of Thrones! I feel like it’s too late to start!
