Today, Sunday 4th October is Grandparent’s Day. Erin’s Grandma lives with us and they have been really busy playing a super fun game; Windy Knickers*.
Before you can start playing Windy Knickers there is a bit of set up required. There are 16 playing pieces that need stickers adding to them, a dice that needs stickers adding, Granny needs clothes and the washing line needs putting together and batteries putting in.
Once you’re ready the play, the rules are quite simple. The youngest player goes first and rolls the dice. A sun means you add a piece of clothing to the washing line, a white cloud means you miss a turn, a rain cloud means take a piece off the washing line and the tornado means you press the grey button!
With 4 of us playing we got to see what each picture on the dice meant quickly and it helped us to have the instructions handy for the first few turns so we didn’t forget. There are only 4 different outcomes so it’s not hard for children to remember either.
The playing pieces are a really nice size and they hang on to the washing line easily, unlike with other games with a similar kind of idea. There is also plenty of space for if you manage to put on lots of pieces before rolling a tornado.
We were all waiting for someone to roll a tornado. When this happens, you press the grey button and the washing line spins around in the ‘wind’. Granny makes noises as it spins around too which is quite funny. The washing line has varying speeds of spin and you don’t know which you will get until it happens.
As the washing line spins around, and if it does it fast, Granny will really spin and her clothes might even fly off! Clothes also fly off the line in the ‘wind’ and afterwards, the player who rolled the tornado must take back their coloured clothes while other players can put them back on the line. The winner is the player to put all of their pieces on the washing line.
We all really enjoyed playing this game. Due the element of surprise with the washing line, we never really knew what would happen and when Granny would spin off, along with her clothes! Windy Knickers is a great family game and one we all really enjoyed.
